Artist CV

I am currently in my third year studying Fine Art (BA Hons) at Coventry University. I have been working on a series of collage type pieces that demonstrate figures and expresses women and how we are expected look and behave. I have distorted the women’s faces and created an artist book that is full of these little collages are very random and concentrate on the damage and disfiguration of the women. This then contrasts with the neat white paper and the pristine look of the book. This is a body of work that I have created in a short amount of time after a lot of research into artists that do similar pieces and use techniques like collage. I have used loads of magazines and images from the media – I think this expresses feelings about mass production and rights for women. This is something that I feel really strongly about and it’s a common theme throughout my work. I think that using collage is a good way to oppress my feelings about these theories in a more discreet way. I really enjoy producing collages and I like to play with the compositions and colour theories. However in my most recent work I’ve been using a lot of photocopied material and I really like the effect the photocopier creates – it adds a sense of damage and deterioration. My skills include print screening, which I experimented with in my first year and really enjoyed it. I think that my photography skills have improved considerably and I am confident when using a camera. I intend to use my degree to become a teacher of Art and Design in a secondary school; I want to apply to do a PGCE at Birmingham City University.

I’m a punctual person and have excellent attendance records. I’ve worked at Pizza Hut for 2 years and 9 months and I think this shows my commitment and determination in the workplace. My job involves working as a team and leadership skills, I demonstrate these roles at work and I feel confident. I think these skills are very important when I become a teacher because communication skills are very important in the classroom and also working as a team with the other staff and working with the students.

Interests:
I’m really interested in shopping and retail. I like going to music gigs, going to the cinema and going to new places. I’m also very interested in art so I visit exhibitions and visit galleries. I also have a fashion and beauty blog that I spend a lot of time posting about products that I’ve tried and clothing. Companies contact me in regard to my blog asking me to talk about products and brands. My blog has grown so much over the last year and at the moment I really enjoy my blog. My blog opens new doors for me and makes me want to work within the fashion and beauty world whether it be for a magazine or online magazine website. I would love to freelance writing columns about fashion and new things in the fashion world. I know this is a very competitive industry, but its something I feel very passionate about and I incorporate it into my artwork.

Work Experience:
For work experience during my time at Sixth Form I did some work experience at Cottesbrook Infant School in Acocks Green, B27 7YA, 0121 706 2742.
This involved working with the children in Year 1 all day including during lessons and break times. I got involved with the activities during the lessons and this enhanced my experience in working in a school environment. I would prefer to work in a secondary school in the future but this opportunity at working in the Infant school allowed me to know what it would be like to teach at an infant school and I decided it wasn’t what I wanted to do.  I loved working with the children and having authority, the difficulties that materialized just motivated me more.
